Toddlers have different ways of expressing themselves. Mine for instance is starting to be more affectionate and giving kisses around. Now she understands the word Kiss and everytime you say Kiss to her, she gives you a kiss, or she waits for you kissin her. She also understand besín. It is a progress!

Los nenos tienen diferentes modos de expresarse. La mía por ejemplo está empezando a ser más cariñosa y dá besitos. Ahora entiende la palabra Kiss y cada vez que le dices Kiss, te da un beso, ó espera que tú se lo des. También entiend besín. Es un progreso!

It is common when you have a baby-toddler that they feel poorly very often. And don´t forget, when you take them to the doctor´s, teddy comes too!

Here you have some expressions about this issue.

Enseñar un idioma que no es el tuyo a tu hijo no es fácil, aunque tampoco es para tanto!

De cuando en vez escucho ó leo noticias sobre estudios acerca de los niños bilingües, del modo de adquirir el lenguaje, etc y me doy cuenta de que es un mundo apasionante, y me interesa.

Yo hablo español, mi lengua materna y hablo inglés, y aunque no me considero bilingüe, sí me siento bastante cómoda en este segundo idioma.

Pienso que cuando me expreso en inglés, mi tono de voz, entonación, incluso forma de ver las cosas varía a veces. En cada idioma existen diferentes palabras, expresiones que son únicas.

Crisis por ej en chino significa también oportunidad! Fijáos que distinto sería hablar de la actual crisis, como la actual oportunidad verdad? Creo que incluso nuestro cuerpo reaccionaría de forma diferente al pronunciar ó escuchar esta palabra!

Espero que a mi nena le sirva para un futuro, yo estoy contenta con mi work!

Teaching a no mother language to your son is not easy, however is not a big deal neither!
From time to time I listen or read news about bilingual kids, ways ol adquiring languages and I feel it is an amazing an interesting issue.

I speak Spanish, my native language and I also speak English, and even not considering myself a bilingual person, I feel quite comfortable in that second language.

When I express myself in English, my tone of voice, entonation, even the way I see things changes sometimes. In each language there are unique words, expressions.

Crisis for instance in Chinese means also opportunity! Think how different would be talking about the current crisis as the current opportunity, wouldn´t be? In my opinion, even our bodies would react different when pronoucting or hearing the that word.

I hope my toddler will find useful this learning in the future, I am happy with my work!

Baby´s melody-MELODÍÍA DE BEBÉ

Since I got pregnant in England, and I spend 7 months of my pregnancy there, I got some lullabies cd's. Also I discovered a wonderful melody that I used to listen in the evenings and it was so relaxing. Nowadays I play the song and my toddler likes it. Hope you like it too!

Ya que me quedé embarazada en Inglaterra, y pasé 7 meses del embarazo allí, me hice con algunos cd´s de canciones de cuna. That little poem, from the book Kiddy English, I use it every morning with my toddler in her first nappy change. I added myself a melody and, that way I sing it to her and she likes it more.

Esta mini poesía, que he adquirido del libro Kiddy English , la uso cada mañana con mi nena en su primer cambio de pañal. Le he añadido mi propia melodía, y de este modo se la canto y a ella le gusta más.

A fun and easy game I use with my toddler to teach her body vocabulary is the following:

I use a puppet (winnie the pooh, a book i have since i was a child with a puppet) and I ask her, where is your nose, hands, mouth, eyes, etc and then I point at it and say, here! She just likes it!

Un juego fácil y divertido que uso para enseñar a mi nena vocabulario del cuerpo es el siguiente.

Utilizo una marioneta ( winnie the pooh, un libro que tengo de pequeñita que incorpora una marioneta=y le pregunto, dónde está tu nariz, manos, boca etc, y luego lo señalo y digo, aquí! A ella le gusta!

The fact of trying my daughter learning English since an early age, in an Spanish speaking country and being Spanish myself, is more complicated than if we were living in England for instance.
However, I am willing to go on, even feeling a kind of shy sometimes when other people are around. And even if I can´t not teach my toddler to say dónde está tu nariz, ó tus manos f.e., i tell her where is your nose, your hands...

Reading issues like the one i attached on the top of this post, give me more strenght. It talks about advantages of speaking more than one language. It seems to be very beneficial for both mind and cognitive development in people.

El hecho de tratar que mi hija aprenda inglés desde bebé en un país de habla hispana y siendo yo española es más complicado que si al menos estuviésemos viviendo en Inglaterra por ejemplo. Aún así, me siento animada a continuar, aunque me dé algo de corte a veces al tener más personas delante, y aunque no pueda enseñar a a mi nena a decir, dónde está tu nariz, ó tus manos por ej, le digo where is your nose, your hands...

Leer reportajes como los que os adjunto un link arriba anima mucho, en el que se habla de las ventajas de hablar más de un idioma. Al parecer es muy beneficioso para la mente y el desarrollo cognitivo en las personas.

Tantrums/Rabietas

I've just read that some toddlers may have 2 tantrums per day, even more! I see that my baby sometimes have a tantrum, specially if she is excited with lots of people around her. She is a very playful toddler, and she can't stop, her curiosity is huge.

I know that tantrums are emotional explosions, caused by frustration when she can't get or do what she wants. Sometimes they are difficult to cope with, so I try to stay calm and say her things like : "it's ok, it's fine, i understand it baby"..but don't give in, cause i want to teach her that tantrum is not a good way to obtain things.

It's hard for me in those moments to speak her in English, specially if there are more people there, but step by step I think we are doing a great job. Her dad is more serious than me when it comes to tell her off, and it works! but it doesn't with me, baby just smiles at me! Therefore my best option is to take her away from where the problem is and try to calm her down.
I´m learning plenty of new things!

Acabo de leer que algunos nenos pueden tener 2 rabietas al día, incluso más! Compruebo que mi bebé a veces pilla una rabieta, especialmente si está nerviosa y hay gente alrededor. Es una nena muy juguetona, y no puede parar, su curiosidad es enorme.

Sé que las rabietas son explosiones emocionales, causadas por la fustración cuando no puede obtener ó hacer lo que quiere. A veces es dificil tratar con ellas, así que trato de permanecer tranquila y decirle cosas como: "es ok, está bien,lo entiendo bebé ", pero no claudicar,pues quiero enseñarle que una rabieta no es un buen modo de obtener las cosas.

Para mí es difícil en esos momentos hablarle en Inglés, especialmente si hay gente delante, pero poco a poco, creo que estamos haciéndolo bien. Su papi es más serio que yo cuando se trata de regañarla,y funciona!pero a mí no, pues me sonríe! Por tanto mi mejor opción es apartarla del problema y tratar de calmarla
Estoy aprendiendo muchas cosas nuevas!

Hi, I've been playing with baby to this game on line. It is didactic and fun, recommended for children up to 2 years old, my baby is just 16 months now, but she likes it.
I think is a good way to learn some vocabulary, but just for a while, I don't like children spending too much time on the computers. Hope you find it useful.

Hola, he estado jugando con la baby a este juego on line. Es didáctico y divertido, recomendado para niños de más de 2 years, mi baby sólo tiene 16 meses ahora, pero le gusta.
Creo que es un buen modo de aprender algo de vocabulario, pero sólamente por un rato, no me gusta que los nenos pasen demasiado tiempo con los ordenadores. Espero que lo encontréis útil.

She is a happy baby, you can tell just looking at her. She smiles, she does smiles, and it is one thing I loved about her! ( even before she came, when she was on my bump, I hoped she was a smiley girl)

She does not speak Spanish yet, nor English, but she is still young, she will. For now she tells HOLA to everyone, even by phone and it is good enough. She has temperament but she is also affectionate. We love her.

Es una bebé feliz, lo notas con solo mirarla. Sonríe, vaya que si, y es algo que adoro en ella! ( incluso antes de que llegara, cuando estaba en mi barriga, deseaba que fuese una nena sonriente)

No habla español aun, tampoco inglés, pero es pequeña, ya lo hará. Por ahora dice Hola a todos, incluso por teléfono y es suficiente. Tiene carácter, pero es también cariñosa. La queremos.

My baby has her first computer. Her aunt and uncle have bought one to her. It is small, pink and it is for learning English. It has many opcions,songs, pronunciation, spelling...and she seems to have fun with it! Ah, and it is so cute!

He estado echando un vistazo al libro y escuchando el CD, y veo que hay frases las cuáles yo le digo a mi bebé de un modo diferente, pero correctas. Sin embargo, estoy introduciendo algunas nuevas.

NEW EXPRESSIONS/NUEVAS EXPRESIONES

Sometimes i find hard being all the time speaking to my baby in English since it is not my mother language. However I think it is worthy the pain, cause as I mentioned in other post, my daughter said cat the other day, probably her first english word.

Apart from buying some books, cds, and using internet, I think it´s a good idea to look for easy words and expressions to teach her. Here you are some:

You like it?
Yummy!
Cat,Dog,Hen,Cow,Pig,Sun,One,None...

I guess the best way is using them on the right context and when it comes about vocabulary, pointing at the correct pictures.

A veces me resulta dificil hablarle en inglés a mi hija todo el rato dado que no es mi lengua materna.Sin embargo creo que merece la pena, ya que como mencioné en otra entrada, la bebé dijo Cat el otro día, probablemente su primera palabra en Inglés.

Además de usar libros, cds e internet, pienso que es buena idea buscar palabras y expresiones sencillas para enseñarle. Aquí tenéis algunas:

Supongo que el mejor método es usándolas en su contexto y si se trata de vocabulario, señalando los dibujos correspondientes.

Something so simple and easy and it works! Just open your hand in front of your baby, showing her your five fingers and say Give me five! And she just imitates you facing your hand against yours. Then you touch her hand with your back's hand.

Algo simple y facil que funciona. Solo abre tu mano delante de tu bebe mostrandole tus cinco dedos, y dile Give me five! ( Choca esas cinco!) Ella te imitara poniendo su mano contra la tuya, luego tocala con la palma de la tuya.

The other morning baby and me were playing with an animal farm she has, and behind a window she found a CAT and after me she repeated the word CAT! I loved it!!!

LOOKING FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS MUMS

Busco mamis que hablen inglés, ya sean españolas ó nativas. Así será más fácil crear un ambiente para hablar con los bebés en un segundo idioma.

Ya he empezado charlando y escribiéndome un poquito en inglés con otras mamis, y la verdad poco a poco se hará más y más natural y cotidiano.

Lo recomiendo a tod@s aquell@s que deseen enseñar una lengua distinta a la materna cuando no se vive en el país del idioma objetivo.

I´m looking for mums who are English speakers, both Spanish mums or natives. That way, it will be easier to create an enviroment to speak with the babies in a second foreign language.

I´ve already started chatting and writing with other mummies in Enlgihs, and I believe that little by little it will become more normal and natural.

I recommend that to everybody who wants to teach a SFL when they are not living in the target language country.

During my pregnancy I was living in England. I remember I got a Traditional nursery rhymes and songs CD.

I often use this CD now with my baby. I´ve also learnt the lyrics and I sing them to her, she just loves it. She smiles, clap her hands, move her arms or touch her head.

The name of the CD is: HUMPTY DUMPTY and you can find it in ebay. Hope you find it useful.

Durante mi embarazo estuve viviendo en Inglaterra. Recuerdo que me hice con un Cd de canciones y rimas tradicionales infantiles.

Actualmente lo uso con mi bebé y también me he aprendido algunas de las letras. Se las canto y a ella le encanta. Sonríe, da palmitas, mueve los brazos y se toca la cabeza.
